PE KS1 Skills Progression Document
In P.E, children develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities and are physically active for sustained periods of time. We use PE Planning schemes of work and enhance this with our own resources which are acquired from FA football, British Gymnastics and the LTA. The planning develops skills and puts these into practice in games, gymnastics, dance etc. We are also a member of the Harrogate Well School Sport Partnership and the children have many opportunities to engage in competitive sports and activities and lead healthy, active lives. At St. Joseph's, we ensure that our pupils become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness. The children also learn values such as respect and fairness whilst they engage in a range of sporting activities. We broadly follow the PE Planning scheme ensuring our children learn and develop physical activity skills such as strength, stamina and sportsmanship.
We are members of the Harrogate Well School Partnership
The Well Schools Partnership VISION is to create sustainable Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity as part of the core provision for all children and young people.
Our MISSION is to positively impact the lives of young people attending the Membership schools through the opportunities that we provide.
Our aims are to:
- Support schools putting Health and Wellbeing at the heart of the school.
- Provide opportunities for all children to engage, develop and compete in events and festivals.
- Provide PE Subject Leadership support.
At St Joseph's , we are delighted to have our own full time dedicated sports coach.
We believe its important that our children have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of sports so they can improve their fitness, discover what they are good at, and gain confidence by finding something they really enjoy – whatever their ability.
We deliver a high-quality physical education curriculum which aims to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities.
Swimming
“Learning about water safety and knowing how to keep yourself safe in and around water is a life-skill and as such, should be recognised and measured in the same ways as other key subjects such as maths. Including a condition that ensures swimming and water safety attainment is published will help to show how we can support schools to deliver these vital lessons.” Steve Parry Chairman of Curriculum Swimming.
National Curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
