Hello, my name is Mrs Dalby and I’m really excited to be teaching in Year Two this year.
We are very lucky in Year Two to have a fabulous bright and colourful classroom which we can’t wait share with the children. My favourite subjects are English and art and I’m looking forward to linking the two together as we explore different texts and topics. I know we will have a wonderful year with our amazing class!
Autumn 1
We have had a great start to the new term and have been very busy learning about Great Britain, exploring transient art and learning all about materials and their properties. In maths we practised our number skills and learnt about place value and in English we enjoyed writing about pirates. We also read bible stories about chosen people and enjoyed delivering our first assembly in Year Two on World Smile Day!
Autumn 2
This half term we have been busy learning all about the Fire of London. We worked hard on our descriptive writing and explored place value, addition and subtraction in maths. As part of anti-bullying week we celebrated difference by wearing odd socks to school and talked about different ways to show kindness. We learnt about Advent and ways we can prepare for Christmas and at the end of the term performed the Nativity ‘Baarmy Bethlehem’ with Year One.

Spring 1
We have had a busy start to the Spring term. In Geography we have been comparing a National Park in Kenya with the Yorkshire Dales. We found out about the different animals in Kenya and in English wrote non-chronological reports about African animals. In maths we have been working on multiplication and in science we have been learning about the life cycle of different animals. As part of our work on the virtue; ‘Love thy Neighbour’ we learnt about the story of The Good Samaritan and led a class assembly all about loving and caring for one another. We have also been practising our observational drawing skills and used carbon paper to make our own prints. It was great fun!
