Welcome to Year Two.jpg

Hello, my name is Mrs Dalby and I’m really excited to be teaching in Year Two this year.

We are very lucky in Year Two to have a fabulous bright and colourful classroom which we can’t wait share with the children. My favourite subjects are English and art and I’m looking forward to linking the two together as we explore different texts and topics. I know we will have a wonderful year with our amazing class!

My name is Mrs Brearton, I am the Year 2 teacher on a Thursday and Friday. I am enjoying teaching Science in particular with the children as I love all things nature based and I am a keen gardener. I love animals too and we are having lots of fun learning about some of my favourite animals.

Autumn 1

We have had a great start to the new term and have been very busy learning about Great Britain, exploring transient art and learning all about materials and their properties. In maths we practised our number skills and learnt about place value and in English we enjoyed writing about pirates. We also read bible stories about chosen people and enjoyed delivering our first assembly in Year Two on World Smile Day!

Autumn 2

This half term we have been very busy learning all about The Fire of London. We enjoyed taking part in UV dodgeball and wrote our own stories in English. In DT we designed and made our own chairs for Baby Bear and in maths we built on our knowledge of addition and subtraction strategies. It was great fun exploring changing materials in science and we loved taking part in the reading bingo challenge this half term. We are a class of book worms!

As part of our Christmas celebrations were loved watching the Year Five Panto and had fun at the Christmas Fayre. We were all superstars in the KS1 nativity, and it was a fantastic surprise when very special visitor came to school!

Spring 1

Year Two began the New Year with a class assembly celebrating National Storytelling Week. We shared our favourite stories and created our own story characters. In Geography we found out about Kenya and compared national parks in Kenya and the UK. We wrote reports about African animals in English and explored the book 'Wangari's Trees of Peace', a true story from Kenya. As part of our work in maths we learnt about money, grouping and interpreting arrays and during our science lessons we enjoyed learning about different animals. In RE we learnt about some of the miracles Jesus performed.

Spring 2

This term in Science the children in Class 2 have been learning about animals and their habitats. We have been on nature hunts in our school grounds and found out about the different conditions that animals need to survive.
We also enjoyed Science work and loved our exciting experiment making rainbows from skittles!
