Welcome to Year 4!
My name is Miss Elgie and I am delighted to be teaching year 4 this year! In my spare time I enjoy walking in the countryside, spending time with my friends and family and if I am lucky…relaxing on a beach with my book.
I am looking forward to a fantastic year full of fun, laughter and lots of work!
Good Shepherd Appeal Sponsored Walk
We have had an amazing afternoon on our sponsored walk for the Good Shepherd Appeal, our little legs were tired when we reached our destination after singing, hopping and skipping all the way there!
On the w/b Monday 11th March we celebrated STEM week in school. On Tuesday we had a visitor from our local secondary school who showed us some inspiring chemistry investigations and we then had a go at investigating ourselves by making a marble run in small groups!
On Tuesday 12th February we took part in ‘British Values’ week. We focused our learning on the word ‘Respect’ and learnt about ways to respect ourselves, the environment and other people.
On Monday 11th February we took part in a sports event led by our sports crew, it was very well organised and we loved every minute of it! Thank you!
Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday 5th February 2019 we took part in the ‘Safer Internet Day’. We used drama to act out different scenarios that we might encounter when using the internet and then we wrote out pieces of advice on our own I pads! I am very proud of the mature attitude shown by everyone - well done!
In our topic lessons we have studied the history behind the Maya mask. We found out that the masks had a wide variety of uses, and the importance of the masks dictated how intricate the designs on various masks were. The most sacred Mayan masks featured complex and delicate mosaics made out of jade. We then designed and made our own Maya masks using different textures and details. Our amazing work then went on display in the classroom.
Week 4 - Advent Liturgy
We led the school in a beautiful advent Liturgy in anticipation of the last week of advent. Miss Elgie and Mrs Barker are very proud of you!
Christmas in Year 4!
We have really enjoyed our last week in school before the Christmas break. We have made Christmas cards, written stories, had our Christmas party and eaten lots of food. Merry Christmas to everyone from Year 4!
The Christmas Fair
We decided to run 2 stalls this year! We ran a guess the name of the reindeer competition and we made homemade Christmas gift tags to sell. The reindeer went to his brand new home with a smile on his face!
Collective Worship in Advent
The children in year 4 have prepared and delivered some beautiful advent collective worships, they have prepared them from start to finish. I have been so proud to watch them flourish in confidence in leading acts of worship.
This term we have experimented with different ways of moving and then balancing. We put these movements into a sequence and then performed our sequences to the rest of the class.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
We have really enjoyed our latest text ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. We had a number of experience days tasting yummy treats and we wrote our own invitations to our own factory…wow!
Electric Bus - Tuesday 27th November 2018
On Tuesday 27th November we had a very strange visitor in our KS2 playground…a bus! The bus has been named ‘St Joseph’s’ as it passes our school on its route. We all enjoyed sitting in it!
1066 - Bayeux Tapestry
In our Art lessons we learnt about the history behind the Bayeux tapestry. We then created our own using snapshots to help us.
1066 - Battle of Hastings Shields
In our Art and DT lessons we have been looking at different paint effects. We made real life Battle of Hastings shields using the skills that we learnt…scary!!
We have looked at British values this week and have concentrated on truths and lies. We then wrote acrostic poems that were amazing - Miss Elgie and Mrs Barker were very impressed.
We plan and deliver our own collective worships sessions to the class. This is a fantastic time for self reflection and prayer.
Our Amazing Homework
We have been busy bees at home creating information posters, models, powerpoints and even light up creations based on our topic the ‘Blue Abyss’…wow!!
Our first week
Our first week has been busy, slotting into new routines, learning about our class Saint (Saint John Paul II) and starting our new learning in maths and English. What a fantastic way to start the term!
