Religious Education

St Joseph's, Harrogate, is a Catholic school which seeks to live out the values of Jesus Christ.
We provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that nurtures the spiritual, moral, social, cultural and academic development of every pupil. Rooted in the belief that each child is made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27), our curriculum enables children to discover and develop their gifts, discern their vocation and become compassionate, responsible citizens who seek to make a positive difference in the world.
Catholic Religious Education is the foundation of our curriculum and plays a central role in the life of our school. As Pope St John Paul II described it, Religious Education is the “core of the core curriculum”. Through the study of Scripture, Catholic teaching, prayer, liturgy and the lives of saints, pupils deepen their relationship with God and grow in their understanding of their faith. As promoted by the Diocese of Leeds, we follow 'Lighting the Path' (EYFS/KS1) and 'The Way, The Truth The Life' (KS2) schemes of work and use many other resources and stimuli linked to our lives today, to engage and inspire the children's learning in RE.
Through Religious Education and the wider life of the school, we aim to nurture pupils who know they are loved by God, who recognise the dignity of others and who are inspired to put their faith into action through lives of service, compassion and love.
