Year 6 discovered the lives behind the headstones at Stonefall
Their stories, our remembrance 🌺
Year 6 welcomed Elizabeth from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, who helped us explore how the First and Second World Wars affected Harrogate.
We then visited Stonefall Cemetery, where Elizabeth shared the stories of service personnel from overseas who are buried in our town. Learning about their lives helped the children understand that each headstone represents a person, a family and a story.
The carefully tended graves also showed the importance of the CWGC’s continuing work to honour those who died and preserve their memory.
This moving experience connected our history learning with a place close to home, encouraging gratitude, respect and reflection on the importance of peace. Thank you, Elizabeth, for helping us remember.
