History comes to life for Year 6! 🔎

From investigating propaganda to signalling in Morse code and practising Home Guard drills, Year 6 explored wartime Britain through a fascinating day with History to Life! 🔎

Year 6 enjoyed an immersive day exploring life in Britain during the Second World War with our visitor from 'History to Life'.

The children examined newspapers for signs of propaganda and investigated how posters used words and images to persuade people. They then created their own designs, inspired by wartime campaigns encouraging people to grow food.

Learning about Bletchley Park and wartime codebreaking introduced the importance of secret communications, before the children practised sending Morse code messages using lights.

They also became uniform detectives, examining clues to work out which countries different uniforms belonged to and the seasons or climates they were designed for. Home Guard training with wooden rifles brought another aspect of wartime Britain to life!

The day offered opportunities to question, investigate and take part, helping Year 6 connect their classroom learning with people’s wartime experiences. Thank you to History to Life for a memorable day!
