Exploring Judaism
Year 6 Visit to Harrogate Synagogue ✡️📖
As part of our Religious Education learning about Judaism, our Year 6 pupils had the wonderful opportunity to visit Harrogate Synagogue, where we were warmly welcomed by members of the Jewish community who shared their knowledge, faith and traditions with us.
During the visit, the children learned about the history of the Jewish faith, what it means to live as an Orthodox Jew, and the special practices that take place during the Sabbath, the Jewish day of rest and prayer. It was fascinating to hear how faith shapes daily life, family traditions and worship.
One of the most memorable moments was being shown the Ark, where the Torah scrolls are kept. The children were amazed to learn that the scrolls are written entirely by hand, following very strict rules, and that no mistakes are allowed. Seeing the incredible detail and care that goes into creating these sacred texts truly blew our minds.
We are very grateful to learn more about a faith that has deeply shaped our own Christian beliefs and traditions. Visits like this help our children grow in understanding, respect and appreciation of different faiths, which is such an important part of our school life.
Thank you to Harrogate Synagogue for making us feel so welcome.
