Y5 and Y6 Quicksticks Hockey Tournament

A report by Jack and Will

Recently, we have been practising very hard for the Harrogate School Sports Partnership Quicksticks competition.  It was very challenging because many of the schools had players who played for Harrogate Hockey Club.  It was very cold and windy but our teams fought through it.  The matches were close and we were unlucky not to get through.

Our team scored some amazing goals and some unfortunate disallowed goals.  The match scores were: 6 - 3, we lost; 0-0, we drew; 4 - 1, we lost; 5 - 0, we won.

The teams we played against were respectful and kind, we owe them a big thanks.  We also owe massive thanks to the teachers who trained and helped us throughout the competition: Thank you Mrs Coates and Mr Thompson.

Key Steps Gymnastics February 9th

The children performed with grace and poise and with smiles throughout the event.  They have been great ambassadors for the school as well as working together as an amazing team. It was a pleasure to take them to the old High School today, perhaps for our last competition there before the move to the new Harrogate High School.

Special thanks to our Y5/6 team who helped support the younger pupils.

Whole School PE Questionnaire - January 2017

Before St. Joseph's staff began teaching the new PE curriculum, children's views on PE were collected through a questionnaire. Please click on the link to read both the findings and the report.

We address how we are promoting an enjoyment of physical activity that will increase the chances of being active for life and help our children gain improved physical literacy skills that can be used in all sports.

Here is a link to the REAL PE website should you wish to learn more about this exciting and well researched approach to PE.

Year 3/4 Mixed Football Tournament 29.11.16

Y3 /Y4 Football Tournament by Sophie and Erin (Y4) As some parents may know, there was a football tournament with some children in Year 3 and Year 4 taking part. It was at Rossett High School on the 29th of November 2016. We played against seven different teams. Year 4 came fourth and year 3 came third. Unexpectedly, some of us got rewards for great teamwork, respect and honesty. The only thing we didn’t like was when we played against each other. But most of all we had fun!

Y5 and Y6 Swimming Gala - 13.1.17

On Friday 13th January 2017, a few members of Year 5 and Year 6 took part in a Swimming Gala at Ashville College.  We all really enjoyed it and overall came 5th out of 6 schools. We did relay races and single races and between all of us these were the strokes: front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.  By the end we were all tired, we had a fantastic day and hope to do it again!

Infant Agility Festival 14.11.16

On Monday 14th November, some of our Y1 and Y2 children participated in a KS1 Agility Festival run by the Harrogate School Sports Partnership. Their behaviour was exemplary, with Niamh, being noted by the Young Leaders as showing the value of honesty during the activities. All of the children had a wonderful time, enjoying the many activities on offer. Mrs Snowden and Mr Thompson were very impressed by their willingness to try new things and their support of one another.
