Philosophy for Children (P4C)

At St. Joseph’s, we use the Philosophy for Children (P4C) approach, to help our pupils to develop into effective, critical and creative thinkers and to take responsibility for their own learning in a caring and collaborative environment. We do this by providing practical ways of developing good thinking, questioning and communications skills.

Each class across the school explores philosophy through questions. These are sometimes linked to the RE statements of the week and when not, explore a wide range of themes. The teacher's role is a facilitator, and the children are allowed to explore their own and other children’s viewpoints in a respectful and inquisitive manner.
